A "cookie" is a small piece of text data that a website asks your browser to store on your computer or device. Cookies allow websites to remember your actions and preferences over time, so you don't have to re-enter them every time you visit.
Our Philosophy on Cookies
CompoundFig uses the minimum set of first-party cookies required to keep the site usable (theme, saved calculator inputs, banner state). We may also display third-party advertisements served by Google AdSense, which can set advertising cookies for ad personalization and measurement. These are clearly labeled as "Advertisement" and never affect our independent, educational calculator results.
1. Cookies We Actually Use
| Cookie Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| theme | Preference (1st party) | Saves light/dark mode preference | 1 year |
| cf_calc_prefs | Preference (1st party) | Saves last-used calculator inputs for convenience | 30 days / localStorage |
| cf_banner_closed | Functional (1st party) | Remembers if you dismissed the cookie/notice banner | 3 months |
2. Advertising & Third-Party Cookies
CompoundFig is supported by Google AdSense. AdSense and its partners may use cookies (such as the NID and related ad-technology cookies) to personalize and measure ads, and to prevent fraud. These are third-party cookies set by Google, not by CompoundFig. You can control personalized advertising at any time via Google Ad Settings or opt out through YourAdChoices.
3. Cookies We NEVER Use
- ❌ Cross-site tracking profiles shared across unrelated websites for ad-network building.
- ❌ Social media "share" tracking cookies (our share links are direct URL links).
- ❌ Any cookie that gives a third party access to your calculator inputs or results.
4. How To Control / Delete Cookies
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. The method varies by browser, but links for common browsers are below:
Note: If you disable all cookies, CompoundFig should still work for basic calculations — the only impact is that saved preferences and persistent inputs will reset between page loads.
5. Consent
Under most privacy regulations, our cookies are either:
- Strictly necessary for the requested function (so no consent required), or
- Preference cookies that you consent to implicitly by continuing to use the site after being notified (and which you can erase at any time).
